Suzanne & David/An Omaha Wedding/Seattle Photographer

On a lovely fall day in Omaha Nebraska, during an “off” day for the huskers of course, Suzanne and David married.  They’ve been dating on and off for the past 10 years I’m told.  Why the wait?  I don’t know.  They seem like a perfect match too me.  I’ve known Suzanne for many many years as she is technically my cousin’s sister but not my cousin.  But for the record that doesn’t stop me from claiming her.  It was the first time I meet David, but he’s so easy to be around I felt like I had known him for years by the time I left.

Wedding Rings on Bible PagesThe wedding it’s self was traditional and too the point.  For them it was about their relationship with God and each other.  I don’t mean this in a bad way at all.  It was so very refreshing to have a couple commit to each other and not to the wedding.  They never lost sight of that.

Wedding Rings on Bible PagesAfter we left the church and before going to the reception we made a stop at a local park at the perfect time of day.  I couldn’t have ask for better light.

Audrey & Nick/ A Maui Wedding/Seattle Photographer

Audrey & Nick  July 30th, 2011

Audrey getting ready detailsAudrey getting readyAudrey and I first meet about 3 years ago when she responded to a bogus job posting (long story, don’t get me started).  In spite of the fact that the posting was totally made up we got together for coffee one afternoon and went on to work together for a good year and a half or so.  So when, over coffee, she told me that they were moving and getting married …. on MAUI I pretty much jumped at the mere thought of it.  Now I’d like to point out that she’s shot for a number of other photographers, so she had other options but she picked ME!  And I felt so honored on many levels.

Exchange of rings and lighting of unity candleThe ceremony was lovely and fun.  It’s not often I’m this lucky enough to get this kind of available light in a church. So many sweet moments it was hard to pick.

Crowd dancing! One of the things Audrey and I always talked a lot about is how wedding DJ’s seem to only have 1 play list: At last, We are family, Brick house….just to name a few.  So with that in mind they spent a lot of time looking for and interviewing DJ’s.  Their guy kicked ass!  At one point I put my camera down and started dancing.

Holly & Will/Pudget Sound Wedding/Seattle Photographer

Holly & Will’s wedding-July 16th.

Holly_Will -the ferry ride overOn a soggy morning in July I caught the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island.  It was pretty, quiet and fun to watch the tourists.

Holly_Will -the rings

I arrived a few minutes early so I was able to dive right in with the detail shots.  Will, the groom created the boutonniers our of pounded/shaped copper.  The rings were custom done by local jewelers

Holly_Will -Will getting ready

Will’s just a fun guy in general.  He was in prime form the morning of and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Holly_Will -dress hanging in window light

Holly found her gown on Craigslist if you can believe it.  It was fantastic!  The color, the detail-loved it.

Holly_Will -Holly dressingHanging out with the girls while the got ready was so much fun.  The house was a disaster but the photography was awesome.  The hair piece was created by a friend of the brides.

Holly_Will -and the whole bridal party in the forestNoah, Noah, Noah-not to be left out.   Who would leave him out, he’s going to bring them down the isle with Ukulele music.

Holly_Will -family portraits in the forestWe were all set up to do family portraits in the forest when first Holly spied her Grandpa and then Will his Grandma.  These are the moments we all live for.  Or should.

Holly_Will-the ceremonyHolly doesn’t sew, but that didn’t stop her from creating a lovely bunting to hang at the ceremony site.  The yellows and oranges really popped against the blues in the sky.

Holly_Will -coming back down the isleHolly_Will -reception details of bottlesWill is an artist by trade and a part time teacher-he sandblasted each of these bottles with the letter B for their last name.  They were filled with water and corked, ready to be opened and used or taken home as a keepsake.  Holly created the “flowers” out of sticks tissue paper glued on in simple jars with pebbles.

Holly_Will -woodfired pizza and detailsThankfully instead of the usual salmon they opted for wood fired Pizza from Rolling Fire.  Delicious!  And how cute is a heart shaped pizza, I mean come on!

Holly_Will -cake tableFun, unique, simple and creative.  The cake table set up worked so well in this space I just loved it.  Simple flowers in common jars placed in, on, and around stakes of books.

Holly_Will -in photo booth mustachesThey had a do-it-yourself photo-booth with super fun props.  I just had to steal a few, couldn’t help myself.

Will & Holly’s Kiss a Carnie Engagement Session/Seattle Photographer

I recently had a fantastic engagement session and I just got  to share it!  OMG did we have fun.  and no booze were involved.  Imagine that.
In less than 2 weeks Will and Holly will be tying the knot.  No more kissing carnies for these two…that is unless they have a career change.  This concept had been bouncing around in my little pea-brain for a while.  They were the PERFECT couple, no wait, they are the PERFECT couple.

Jody & Kevin/May 22/Mountain Home Lodge/Seattle Photographer

How they  meet and courted such long distances (Kevin is Irish):

Ok, well that can be a very long story.  I will give you the short version! :)
We met in Chicago in January 2005, when we both worked for the same Consulting company (Accenture).  Accenture hosts worldwide training in Chicago; Kevin came from London, I came from Seattle.  We didn’t know each other that well during the training, but we met a mutual group of friends.  I planned my first trip to Europe with that group of friends in May of 2005, and Kevin was “hosting” the trip in London and Ireland.  I spent 10 days in London and Ireland with this group of friends and Kevin; our first kiss was on Kevin’s Dad’s boat near the Shannon river in Ireland, on May 22nd, 2005.  We got married on May 22nd, 2010, exactly five years later.  During those five years we mostly dated long-distance.  We’d see each other every 3-8 weeks, and we’d take turns travelling to Seattle or London, or meeting somewhere fun like New York or Mallorca.  We were lucky to have jobs that supported our travelling.  We didn’t talk on the phone more than a few minutes per day, because of the 8 hour time difference, but relied on Instant Messenger and email for most of our communication.  I moved to London with my company and lived with Kevin for almost a year.  In the end, I knew I needed and wanted to live in Seattle.  Kevin proposed in December of 2008, and finally moved to Seattle in 2009.

Bekka & Matt

Now that I’m up an blogging again I’d like to go back in time and revisit some fantastic events that were left out.

Meet Bekka and Matt-2 of the most creative people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.  In a nut shell I was their only outside vendor.  They either made it themselves, or their family or friends did.  It resulted in a beautiful day-visually and of the heart.  They are so in love.

Bekka started with a ‘find’ at a thrift store.  Then went on to add the floral neck line and rework them hem

Parasols were recovered by Bekka as well.

The guys wore suits from H&M.  The tie tacks and cuff links are from a Etsy vendor made of watch parts.

Again, ALL the hair pieces were crafted by Bekka.

so sweet.  so shy.

Bekka’s mom performed the ceremony softly lite by candle light and late afternoon sun surrounded by artwork of Matt’s creation.

having things tossed on you always seems like a good idea.

This amazing backdrop was created by Matt.  It was so lovely I wanted to do a whole wall in my bedroom with this concept.  Alas it’s not as easy as he made it look.

Now THIS is how to do a photo booth.  Think theater set meets family heirlooms and POOF there ya go.

Fun was had by ALL.

Bekka hand sewed all the fans guest found on their ceremony sets.  The photo wall documented their life up to that day.  AND the ceramic center pieces were created by Bekka as well.

Family portraits were captured under a giant hand painted canvas.

All the girls were sporting rings hand crafted by the crafty Bekka.

Ah, Grandpa’s original recipe how I wish I could have tried you…..

some of the sweetest moments of the day

ah, did I mention Bekka is a ceramic artist?-and responsible for not only the cake topper but all the tea candle favors.

What a way to end the day.  Slow dancing under fairy lights and pompoms at dusk.
